Welo (Wollo) opal hails from the Ethiopian highlands and is prized for its vivid play-of-color in reds, greens, blues, and neon hues. Each cabochon was individually cut and polished by hand, domed to bring out maximum brilliance. Welo is a hydrophane opal, so it can absorb a little moisture and shift in appearance, often showing pinfire, honeycomb, or broad-flash patterns.
