Welo (Wollo) opal is sourced from the Ethiopian highlands and treasured for its vivid play-of-color in reds, greens, blues, and neon hues. Each cabochon was individually cut and polished by hand, domed to draw out the most fire. Welo is a hydrophane opal, so it can absorb a little moisture and shift in look over time, often showing pinfire, honeycomb, or broad-flash patterns.
