Welo (Wollo) opal comes from the Ethiopian highlands and is prized for its vivid play-of-color in reds, greens, blues, and neon hues. Each stone was individually cut and polished by hand into a smooth dome to maximize brilliance. Welo is a hydrophane opal, so it can absorb a little moisture and change in look over time, often showing pinfire, honeycomb, or broad-flash patterns.
